Beat Bush's Senators
09/10/2008
Two years ago, the pundits said Democrats couldn't do the impossible and pick up the seats we needed to gain a majority in the U.S. Senate. But with the help of people like you in our PAC for a Change family, we helped elect good progressive candidates in tough Senate races across the country -- and Democrats did take back the Senate!
Now we need to expand our Democratic majorities in Congress. We all wish that fundraising wasn't a central part of winning, but it is and our candidates rely on people like you more than ever -- especially in these last few weeks leading up to Election Day.
That's why I'd like to tell you about two exciting women who are poised to beat well-funded, right-wing incumbents: Kay Hagan in North Carolina and Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire. Recent polls show both Kay and Jeanne leading, but now they need our help to bolster their leads and finish on top on Election Day. Please contribute to their campaigns today!

Just to give you an idea of who Kay and Jeanne are up against, here is a quick glimpse of their opponents:
Kay Hagan's opponent, Senator Elizabeth Dole, is wrong on issues ranging from the environment to a woman's right to choose. The League of Conservation Voters gave Dole a dismal approval rating of 4%, and NARAL scored her at 0% for her votes against choice. If that weren't enough, Elizabeth Dole has voted with George Bush 92% of the time.
The voting record of Jeanne Shaheen's opponent, John Sununu, isn't any better: He was given a 0% rating by NARAL, opposed an increase in health care funding for our troops, and has voted with George Bush 90% of the time.
It's time to take back these two critical Senate seats and expand our Democratic majority -- and that's why it's so important that we help Kay and Jeanne take on their right-wing, Bush-supporting opponents. Please contribute to their campaigns today!

Kay Hagan has served in North Carolina's State Senate for five terms, where she was named one of North Carolina's "Ten Most Effective Senators" three terms in a row by the non-partisan North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research. As a State Senator, Kay helped stimulate economic development, increased teacher pay, and broadened early childhood education.
As New Hampshire's first female Governor, Jeanne Shaheen has proven that she can provide strong leadership on a range of progressive issues such as the environment, energy, education, and choice. She will fight for women and families in the Senate.
We need more women leaders in government who will truly fight for the issues that matter to us all -- ending the war in Iraq, fighting global warming, jump-starting our economy, and so many more. Kay Hagan and Jeanne Shaheen are two of those leaders. They would make tremendous U.S. Senators, giving us an even greater Democratic majority in Congress, and we need to help them now.

Thank you so much for helping Kay and Jeanne win this November!
In Friendship,

P.S. Right-wing organizations are already pouring millions of dollars into TV advertisements to smear the voting records of Kay and Jeanne. Help them fight back against the right-wing's attacks: Contribute to Kay and Jeanne's campaigns today!
