Fighting Back in Oregon and Colorado

Earlier this week, I asked you to help Democratic Senate candidates Mark Udall in Colorado and Jeff Merkley in Oregon fight back against Freedom's Watch, a right-wing front group that is spending over a million dollars in attack ads against their campaigns.

Thanks to our PAC for a Change community, we've already raised over $28,000 for Mark and Jeff. But it's going to take more support from people like you to help them set the record straight in the wake of Freedom's Watch's misleading smears. And don't forget, Freedom's Watch is just one of many right-wing organizations pouring millions of dollars into ads against Mark and Jeff, smearing their impressive records.

In 2002, Colorado Congressman Mark Udall stood up to the Bush Administration and voted against the war in Iraq, despite enormous political pressure to support the war. He has also been an outspoken critic of President Bush's assaults on our civil liberties and a strong proponent of renewable energy resources. But he's being outspent by nearly 2-to-1 on TV, thanks to the help of right-wing groups that have spent over $13 million in attack ads that are smearing his good name.

In Oregon, Jeff Merkley now serves as the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives where he has led the fight to make health care more affordable, pass landmark environmental legislation, and create thousands of family-wage jobs in Oregon. A recent Survey USA poll shows Jeff Merkley leading Gordon Smith 44% to 42%, but Smith and his right-wing allies are outspending Jeff 2-to-1 on television ads this week alone.
