Chinese Jobs, Bald-Faced Lies, and a Big Opportunity in PA
Can You Believe?
Can you believe Trump wanting to lift sanctions against a Chinese company that illegally sold technology to Iran & North Korea? He says he wants to save 75,000 jobs – in CHINA!
Can you believe House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s inadvertent truth-telling when he said allowing a vote on DACA (which a majority of House members favor) would cost the GOP its majority? What does he think not allowing a vote will do for them?
Can you believe EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s bald-faced lying during his testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee?
Hits and Misses – the week’s best and worst moves
Hit of the Week: Senator Pat Leahy’s classic take-down of Pruitt, who claimed he had to spend $100,000 flying first class for security reasons. “What a silly reason you had to fly first class,” Leahy said. “Because of a danger to you, you had to fly first class … Nobody even knows who you are.” You go, Pat!
Miss of the Week: Trump’s refusal to apologize for a White House aide’s outrageous insult of Senator John McCain – and other GOP senators’ failure to press for an apology during their meeting with Trump.
Hot House Races of the Week
Tuesday’s Pennsylvania primary election put a spotlight on the Keystone State, which is key to our efforts to take back the House. At least six GOP House seats are up for grabs here, and at least three of these look like solid pick-up opportunities for Dems. The chance for big gains in PA arose after the state Supreme Court threw out the GOP’s blatantly gerrymandered Congressional map. Democratic voters increased our chances Tuesday by choosing strong candidates, including six women. There are currently no women in Pennsylvania’s 18-member congressional delegation.
Fighting Back …
In this week’s Fight Back with Barbara Boxer podcast, my daughter, Nicole, and I analyze the dangers of our less-than-do-nothing Congress. Then I speak with columnist E.J. Dionne about our history together and the challenge of reaching Trump supporters. Later, Nicole talks with famed documentary filmmaker Leslie Cockburn, Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District.
