#Enough. #Changethelaws. #Neveragain.
For those of you who are regular readers of this Boxer’s Corner, you know that we can take a lighthearted look at the absurdities coming out of Washington. But like most of America, I’m not feeling lighthearted right now. Our nation again mourns following a senseless shooting. But it is time that our nation says “Enough” and acts in the face of tragedy. Acts to bring about sensible legislation to prevent weapons from getting into the hands of those who should not have them, and acts to limit the firepower that makes mass tragedy possible.
Legislation has been offered by many, including California’s own Senator Dianne Feinstein. I do know that the “thoughts and prayers” offered by so many don’t end tragedies. That is what Florida Governor Rick Scott had to offer just after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy in his state. This is the same Rick Scott that the NRA gave both a boatload of money to, and an A+ rating, and labeled as the most pro-gun governor in Florida history. I created an ad that I hope you will watch and share with your friends about his record. If you know anyone in Florida, where Scott intends to run for Senate, please make sure they watch it. Let me close with this: Alyssa Alhadeff, Scott Beigel, Martin Duque Anguiano, Nicholas Dworet, Arron Feis, Jaime Guttenberg, Christopher Hixon, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alexander Schachter, Carmen Schentrup, Peter Wang. They will not be going to college, not be going out on dates, or to the beach. They will not be teaching or coaching or mentoring. All were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
