Knight Flunks Out

Can You Believe?

Can you believe Congressman Steve Knight having the gall to write an op-ed about school shootings without mentioning gun safety legislation? Knight gets an “F” for this essay, but he keeps his “A” rating with the NRA.

Can you believe Trump freaking out because Melania was actually watching the news – rather than the 24/7 propaganda broadcasts on Fox?

Can you believe Mike Pompeo telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that Trump is tough on Russia and respects our national security community? The Committee sure didn’t believe it for a minute.

Hits and Misses – the week’s best and worst moves

Hit of the Week: Adam Schiff’s takedown of Trump stooge Devin Nunes. With clinical precision, Schiff exposed and refuted Nunes’s lies about the FISA warrants and Mueller investigation. One headline read, “Adam Schiff Wipes The Floor With Devin Nunes For Repeatedly Lying To Protect Trump.”

Miss of the Week: Lots of contenders as always, but Trump’s tweet practically declaring war on Iran in all capital letters was the lamest. As Democratic congressional candidate Mike Levin said, “Caps Lock is no substitute for a coherent foreign policy.”

Hot Race of the Week

This week’s hottest race – the battle for the Senate – is actually 13 races. All year, Democrats have focused on defending 10 Democratic seats in states Trump won and flipping 1 to 3 GOP seats in Nevada, Arizona, or Tennessee. A year ago, this was considered a long shot. But now, for the first time, Real Clear Politics rates the Democrats’ chances as “no worse than 50-50 to take the Senate.” There are still some very tough fights ahead (North Dakota, Indiana, Florida, and Missouri leap to mind), but the tide is turning and the Blue Wave is coming!

Fight Back

On this week’s podcast, Nicole and I discuss climate change and then interview Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, about the vital importance of women’s right to choose. In her Hot Race segment, Nicole talks with Katie Porter about her vigorous campaign to flip California’s 45th Congressional District.
