Can You Believe?
Can you believe that after all the hype about its release – much of it generated by Russian bots – the Nunes memo would be nothing more than a shoddy critique of one FISA warrant request? As Peggy Lee would say, “Is that all there is?”
Can you believe Devin Nunes admitting he hadn’t even read the FBI’s Carter Page FISA application, much less the underlying intelligence used to obtain it? This guy makes Trump look like a scholar.
Can you believe Trump tweeting that ‘This memo totally vindicates ‘Trump’ in probe”?
Hits and Misses – the week’s best and worst moves
Hit of the Week: Nancy Pelosi’s valiant stand for the Dreamers. In a historic eight-hour speech on the House floor, the Democratic Leader shared Dreamers’ inspiring stories along with her own deep spiritual beliefs about the core American values of compassion, generosity, and justice.
Miss of the Week: Hard to beat calling Democrats “treasonous,” but this week John Kelly outdid Trump twice – first saying that Dreamers who hadn’t applied for DACA were either too afraid or “too lazy to get off their asses” and then urging alleged serial wife beater Rob Porter to “stay and fight” rather than resign. Like everyone else who works for Trump, Kelly has sunk to his boss’s level, and he’s sinking further every day.
Hot House Races of the Week
PAC For A Change has targeted seven California GOP House members in districts won by Hillary. Two of them (Issa and Royce) have already announced their retirement. Two others – Dana Rohrabacher and Steve Knight – are now running far behind. A recent UC Berkeley poll shows that only 38% of Rohrabacher’s constituents approve of him; 50% disapprove, including 38% who “strongly disapprove.” Knight’s numbers are even worse: 37-53, with 40% strong disapproval. Democrats outnumber Republicans 38-35% in Knight’s district. Rohrabacher holds the edge in voter registration, but his erratic behavior and long history as Putin’s favorite congressman make him California’s #1 endangered Republican. The grandiose and self-promoting military parade idea is classic Trump, but he really is marching America down the road to tyranny. Day after day, he attacks the pillars of our democracy: a free press, voting rights, an independent judiciary, our intelligence services, federal law enforcement, and a loyal opposition. We can and must resist him at every turn. Our best chance to stop this autocrat in his tracks is to replace his craven enablers in Congress. With your support, I am working every day to take back the House, the Senate, and our democracy. Join me at https://barbaraboxer.wpengine.com/what-we-do/resist-and-replace
