Can You Believe?
Can you believe it took Scott Pruitt so long to leave? Truly one of the worst Cabinet secretaries in history. One crook down, many more to go.
Can you believe Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10) could not gain entry to a detention center for immigrant children even though dozens of Democratic lawmakers had visited such facilities? With the cameras rolling, Denham was just as ineffective pulling off a publicity stunt as he has been passing legislation. Time to give Josh Harder a chance to do better!
Can you believe Trump’s claims that the denuclearization of North Korea is “going well”? This just after the Defense Intelligence Agency concluded that the North Koreans plan to deceive the U.S. about the scope of their nuclear warhead and missile programs. I know that “Trump” and “Intelligence” don’t go together, but this is ridiculous.
Hits and Misses – the week’s best and worst moves
Miss of the Week: Trump’s lame and deceitful tweets attacking Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren for “supporting the animals of MS-13.”
Hit of the Week: Senator Harris’s epic reply to Trump: “As a career prosecutor, I actually went after gangs and transnational criminal organizations. That’s being a leader on public safety. What is not, is ripping babies from their mothers.” You go, Senator!
Hot Race of the Week
Arizona is one of our top Senate targets, but we always thought it would be a nail-biter. Maybe not. Ahead of the August 28th primary, Representative Kyrsten Sinema has united Democratic voters while Republicans Martha McSally, Kelli Ward, and Joe Arpaio (yes, him!) are tearing each other apart. Recent state polls show Sinema leading Ward by 10 points, McSally by 11, and Arpaio by 25. Building a big lead here would allow national Democrats to use precious resources in Missouri, Indiana, and other red states with Democratic incumbents.
In this week’s podcast, Nicole and I discuss the Fourth of July and what being an American means to us. Then I speak with women’s rights attorney Marcia Greenberger about gaining equality and representation for women, and Nicole talks with Dr. Hiral Tipirneni, who is running for Congress in Arizona’s 8th District.
