Gearing Up for 2020

Trump's Pay Gap

Can you believe that the pay gap under the Trump Administration has tripled that of the Obama Administration? According to the American Enterprise Institute, White House women now earn 63.2 cents for every dollar White House men earn. Yes. I guess I can believe that.

Can you believe that Donald Trump actually posted a video on Twitter, showing him beating up CNN? Running at, then knocking down CNN. Then he stomps off, perhaps to start another fight with someone or something else. It would have been unbelievable before inauguration day.

Can you believe that the science division of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is now completely unstaffed? CBS News reports that the entire science staff is gone. That tells us a lot, doesn’t it?

Hits and Misses – the week’s best and worst moves

Hit of the Week: The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that the EPA couldn’t suspend the Obama rule to restrict methane emissions from new oil and gas wells. At least for now, we can (continue to) breathe easier.

Miss of the Week: Oh my. What can you say about NJ Gov. Chris Christie? First it was Bridgegate. Now it’s Beachgate. What’s next? Byebyegate.

House Race of the Week

Mimi Walters is an Orange County Republican, first elected to Congress in 2014. In 2016, while Walters had an easy reelection race, Hillary Clinton won her district by more than five points. Does Walters represent this seemingly moderate district? Hardly. has a handy chart showing us that Walters has voted with the Trump agenda 100 percent of the time. It is time to find a better representative for CA-45 than 100%Trump Mimi Walters. Let’s replace her.

I hope you all had a great Fourth of July. Traditionally, Americans celebrate our Independence Day with family and friends, neighborhood parties, maybe some barbecue, a parade, and fireworks. This year, I think the celebrations were much the same, though for many of us, there was the underlying concern about the state of our nation. Congress seems intent on passing legislation that endangers our air, water, health, and future. And President Trump is, for many of us, an unbelievable and unmitigated disaster.

We should all remember, though, that our nation was born from strife. Our founders fought for independence. They fought for a democracy. They didn’t give in to monarchy or tyranny. And throughout the nation, today, we see people fighting back, every day. People are going to town hall meetings and challenging Members of Congress to explain their votes. We see pop-up phone banks, with people making calls to encourage democratic action. We see new, fresh faces willing to run for political office, and work to win. So while Washington, DC seems to be reeling under right-wing control, Americans are working together like never before. We will take our nation back. We are taking our nation back. Join the action. Be part of the change. And tell a friend to go to and join us.
